When I celebrated my first anniversary as director of LSU Press on March 4, little did I foresee that less than a month later all Press staff would be working from their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Press building closed on March 16, we transitioned to remote status on March 17, and on March 18 we were up and running. It thus seems only fitting to begin this piece by thanking my colleagues here at the Press, who pitched in together to achieve a near-seamless transition to remote work and who maintained a positive and can-do spirit throughout the process.
So, while our campus offices may be closed, LSU Press is not. We are engaged in our traditional day-to-day operations, albeit remotely. Our printers and distributor are still open, and our warehouse continues to fulfill orders. As of now, we do not anticipate any significant disruption in our normal publication schedule. Of necessity, we’ve had to change some of our ways of proceeding. Since we can’t exhibit at conferences as scheduled, we’re hosting virtual exhibits on our website. In these strange and uncertain times, one element of continuity is that we remain dedicated to the Press’s mission of publishing books that endure. Even more importantly, we are focused on the health and wellness of our extended LSU Press family. Stay safe, everyone.
